Pride Fest 2009:

Dear community:

It has been a truly historic year for Iowa and for all same-sex couples! I am once again reminded why I am proud to be an Iowan. For over 30 years, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community, along with our friends and allies, has gathered in central DesMoines to celebrate and raise awareness, visibility, and understanding of our diverse community.

Thank you for making Capital City Pride – Des Moines is one of the fastest growing Prides in the Midwest with thousands of people in attendance last weekend we have truly become a destination Pride!

I would like to extend a thank you to everyone that was involved in making Pride a reality this year!

We certainly could not have held this event with out the financial support of all our sponsors! Thank you!

This year our Street Party and Pride Fest celebration was held in the East Village of downtown Des Moines. The businesses and residents of the East Village opened their arms to they and us were truly great hosts for this years events! We want to thank everyone who resides in the East Village for their welcoming and accommodating spirit.

I would like to also take this opportunity to thank each and every board member, committee chair, committee member, advisor, and volunteer for Capital City Pride 2009. I have never worked with a more dedicated and determined group of individuals. Each person brought to the table their unique skills, experience, and talents. Because of that, this celebration was truly a reflection of them. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
